Ángel Di Maria – a name that is recently getting more and more recognition across Europe, and for a good cause.
Angel Di Maria, often referred to by Real Madrid’s supporters as “El Fideo”, has had an excellent season for the Spanish giants, scoring 11 goals in 52 games in all competitions, and assisting 26 times. He was considered as being one of the best players of Real Madrid, throughout the 2013/14 season.
However, since Real Madrid bought James Rodriguez, the 23 year old Colombian star from AS Monaco, for a sum of £63 million, Di Maria’s Real Madrid future seemed to have come to an end.
It did on the 26th August – Manchester United announced that they have reached an agreement with Real Madrid, and that a record-fee was paid for El Fideo, in the region of £60 million.
Real got an astounding amount for Di Maria’s sale, but the Madrid fans will consider this as a heavy blow, as Di Maria played a huge part in winning the Champions League alongside Ronaldo and Gareth Bale.
The Argentine said “I am absolutely delighted to be joining United. United is the only club I would have left Real Madrid for.”
The manager, Louis van Gaal shortly followed the statement up by saying, “Angel is a world-class midfielder. There’s no doubting his immense natural talent.”
Manchester United’s current season start was abysmal, losing to Swansea City and then drawing with Sunderland.
Can Di Maria reach his potential at Manchester United ? Only time will tell.
