Radamel Falcao could be set for a sensational return to Madrid just one year after completing a £50million switch to Ligue 1.
Although, it is not his former club Atletico Madrid that could land the star striker, but local rivals Real Madrid.
Falcao has been linked with a move away from Monaco constantly even since he made the switch to the principality, with the majority of Europe’s top clubs being linked with the player at some point over the past season.
However, following a serious injury and constant speculation about the player’s happiness, the club are now looking at the possibility of offloading the player in order to recoup the majority of the money they paid Atletico last summer.
Real Madrid were thought to be Falcao’s most likely destination, with Chelsea, Manchester City and Manchester United also interested. However, the Premier League clubs were thought to be put off by Colombian’s £45million price-tag.
Although, it has been reported that Monaco would be willing to allow their star man to leave on a season-long loan, for a fee in the region of £10million, with the other £35million payable at the end of the spell, should they wish to make the deal permanent.
Such a deal would surely turn the heads of a number of clubs, as it will provide less of a burden on their Financial Fair Play budgets – good news for Real Madrid, who recently splashed the cash on Toni Kroos and James Rodriguez.
Despite being well-stocked in the midfield, Madrid currently only have one out-and-out striker in Karim Benzema, and a proven striker would provide a well-needed boost next season.
Falcao managed 11 goals for Monaco last season, despite making just 19 appearances – an impressive tally, and one which he has already proved he can replicate in the Spanish league.
