With Premier League action now over, and a summer without a major International ahead, teams, fans and the media have turned their attention to the transfer market.
The Premier League’s top 6 sides have already been linked with a number of big-name signings, and should even a few of them prove true, we are set for one truly amazing season.
Here are a few of the biggest rumours to emerge this week:
Jose Mourinho’s Blues are considering a move for Toby Alderweireld as they seek to strengthen their team ahead of the new season. After spending a year on loan at Southampton, he managed to impress the Blues enough for them to consider him as a backup for the ageing John Terry.
Juan Cuadrado is seeking clarification on his future with Chelsea as he wants to be guaranteed regular playing time next season, after making just four league starts for the side sign his January move.
Geoffrey Kondogbia, who starred for Monaco in the Champions League match against Arsenal in the last campaign is rumored to be a target for Arsene Wenger. Arsenal feel that he add another option to their midfield and provide some competition to those already holding down a starting place.
Arsenal is also rumored to be in the market for a striker. Gonzalo Higuain, who they missed out on to Napoli back in 2013, is high up on their list of potential targets.
Manchester united are looking to sign contract rebel Raheem Sterling who has yet to decide on his future at Liverpool. As one of the most promising talents currently within European football, there are number of clubs looking to land the 20-year-old, and the Red Devils have now thrown their hat in the ring.
Bastian Schweinteiger is also high on Manchester United’s transfer list. They have identified central midfield as the position in the squad that they desperately need to strengthen this summer, and the Bayern Munich man would slot into the side perfectly.
Paul Pogba will snub a move to Manchester City despite the club offering Juventus more than £70 million for their star midfielder. The French international is uninterested in moving back to England, and would favour a move to the Nou Camp.
City are also interested in picking up Isco on the cheap as a future replacement for David Silva, who will turn 30 at the midway point of the season. Isco is believed to be unsettled at Real Madrid, and having developed a decent relationship with Pellegrini while at Malaga, the Spanish midfielder may be keen to link up with his former manager at the Etihad.
Liverpool have completed the signing of James Milner from Manchester City on a free transfer, having turned down a salary increase at City in order to find more game time elsewhere.
Liverpool player Divock Origi is finally set to join up with the club after completing a loan spell at Lille. The Belgian, signed last summer for £10 million after impressing at the Brazil World Cup, feels that he is capable of fighting for a place in the first-team at Anfield this season.
Hugo Lloris is the favorite to take over in between the Old Trafford goalposts should David de Gea depart for Real Madrid this summer. Jan Vertonghen has urged the club to hold on to their star keeper in order to press on for a place in the Champions League next year, but a move to Manchester United may turn the Frenchman’s head.
Spurs are also keen to put to rest the situation surrounding Nabil Bentaleb. The 20-year-old has been approached by Champions League clubs following a fantastic season, and with contract talks with Spurs failing to produce the desired outcome, speculation about his future continues to mount, but the London club are determined to hang on to their promising talent.
