Paris Saint-Germain hitman Zlatan Ibrahimovic has sparked speculation about his future after stating that his next move will come as a ‘shock’ to football fans.
The Swedish star has been linked with a number of clubs this summer, with a number of Premier League sides said to be monitoring his situation in the French capital, but he refused to confirm or deny these rumours when questioned following PSG’s 2-0 pre-season win over Manchester United.
Ibrahimovic told reporters, “I’m very happy at PSG. You don’t see that on the field?
“I have another year on my contract with PSG and I’m very happy.”
However, while most players are beginning to reach the conclusion of their playing days at the age of 33, Ibrahimovic has no desire to hang up his boots once his contract with the Ligue 1 Champions expires. It is well documented that the serial winner would like to ply his trade in the MLS one day, having confirmed earlier this month that he would ‘absolutely’ like to play in North America, but according to the Swede, his next move will come as a big surprise.
When asked where his future lies, Ibrahimovic announced, “Where I go next? It will be a surprise. A big surprise.”
The hint has reignited talk of a potential move to Manchester United following Louis van Gaal’s claims that a ‘surprise striker’ could be on his way to Old Trafford. However, as things stand, Ibrahimovic is unlikely to make the switch this summer. Although, with the lethal front-man still banging in plenty of goals year on year, his age is unlikely to deter Van Gaal from making a move should Ibrahimovic become available next summer.
The Dutch boss is looking for a star player to add the finishing touches to his new-look Red Devils, and Ibrahimovic certainly fits the profile. With 30 goals in 37 appearances for the French club last season, he is still one of the best out-and-out strikers in world football at the moment. The journeyman has plyed his trade throughout Europe, winning league titles in the Netherlands, Italy, Spain and France.
At the age of 34 it would certainly come as a surprise, but Zlatan would surely be interested in adding the Premier League to his collection.
